Newsletter Term 2 Week 10, 2024
End of Semester 1
As we approach the end of term, I would like to take this opportunity to say a big thanks to all the staff for their great work and to all the parents who have helped support their children in any way. On reflecting on the students’ achievements from reading their reports, our students are making excellent progress and learnt a great deal.
I hope that you all have a safe and enjoyable time with your children over the school holiday break and look forward to working with you all again next term. It is going to be a busy time at OLV over the next 2 weeks as we prepare the school for the start of Term 3.
School resumes on Monday 22 July.
Preschool resumes on Tuesday 23rd July.
Semester 2 Reports
As we come to the end of Term 2, you will receive your child’s Semester One Report which will be released via SEQTA Engage tomorrow afternoon. School reports play a crucial role in the communication between the school and parents about a child’s learning journey. They provide valuable insights into a child's academic progress, strengths, areas needing improvement, and how they are developing as a unique individual. Understanding your child’s reports can significantly enhance a parent's ability to support their child's education.
What do reports tell you about your child’s learning?
Academic Performance: Reports give a summative account of a child's performance in various subjects through the allocation of a grade.
Progress Over Time: By comparing reports from different terms or years, parents can track their child's academic growth and development.
Teacher’s Feedback: The General Comments section by the class teacher provides highlights of the semester and future goals for the student next semester.
Personal Values: Our reports also touch on how a child interacts with peers and teachers, which is vital for their overall growth.
Attendance Records: Consistent attendance is important in the continuity of learning and social development of your child. Sickness is unavoidable however, lateness to school should not be occurring as students miss out on core literacy learning.
Parents have been asked to download the SEQTA Engage app in readiness to receive their child’s report this week. It is also important that you download your child’s report and save it safely in either the cloud one drive as hard copies of Student Reports are no longer provided to parents. Please take the time to chat with your child about their achievements and areas for further development next semester. If you have any concerns about your child’s report, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher to discuss the matter.
Learning Conversations
These will take place in Week 3 next term. Information regarding these meetings and booking information will be sent home on Tuesday 23 July.
Railway Tce Car Park
Last Friday the Port Adelaide Enfield Council began to make changes to the car parking along Railway Tce to ensure that this area is safer for pedestrians and drivers. These changes caused a lot of angst amongst a section of our parents. The changes to the parking along the school side of Railway Tce is a council decision. This decision has been made after many observations by the Port Adelaide Enfield Council Traffic Engineer. The local residents (of which we are one) have been notified and given an opportunity to provide feedback. This was communicated in the Week 6 School Newsletter.
This proposal was presented to the School Board. The feedback from the residents was positive. The feedback from the School Board was that there is traffic congestion and that these changes be trialed and reviewed after 6 months. This has been adopted and this will be reviewed at the end of the year.
In my conversations with the Traffic Engineer, is that parents using the “Kiss & Drop” can queue waiting to enter the Kiss & Drop area. The No Stopping signs will be followed by painted yellow lines next week. This will be followed up with a period of education pamphlets provided by the council.
No Stopping
These zones are usually located next to school entrances and the approach and departure sides of school crossings. This helps to keep traffic to one side of the street, reducing congestion. Drivers may queue along the broken yellow line for the purpose of driving into the KISS & DROP parking area.
Drivers are not permitted to leave their vehicle
St Vinnies Can Drive Winter Appeal
Thank you, thank you, thank you…………..and thank you.
Thank you all for your non-perishable donations brought in over the term. We’re so grateful that you’ve supported us in our mission in promoting sensitivity, justice and compassion across our community and deeply appreciate your commitment to helping.
As you are aware, your donations will go towards assisting St Vincent de Paul in their mission to serve those who find themselves in less favourable circumstances. They truly wouldn’t be able to make the difference they do without your generosity and openness to God’s Spirit, through your commitment, modelling what it means to be living in Catholic faith.
Nunga Group Mass – NAIDOC Week
On Tuesday 2nd July we gathered in faith and love at our end of term Mass hosted by our Nunga Group students and Ms. Bianchini (Nunga Coordinator) in preparation of celebrating NAIDOC Week. This week has been an important week; an opportunity for learning, connection, and community.
During our entrance procession to the Mass, students brought forward Our Lady of the Visitation crest, the Aboriginal Flag, the Australian Flag, and the Torres Strait Islander Flag to acknowledge the importance of inclusion and they brought forth the golden wattle which is a symbol of unity in Australia. At OLV we stand united: everyone belongs, everyone is included, and everyone matters and matters much.
NAIDOC Week gives First Nations people and non-Indigenous people the opportunity to celebrate and connect with community and country. And it’s a chance for everyone, not just First Nations people, to celebrate all aspects of First Nations’ histories and cultures.
2024 NAIDOC Week’s theme is ‘Keep the Fire Burning!' Let’s ensure our flame is both warm to those we interact with and serves as a light showing others where the love of God is to be found (Matthew 5:16).
Lastly, as we head into our school holidays, I trust you will enjoy this time away from the busyness and the daily routine of school. The holiday is a perfect time to regroup as a family, hang out leisurely with loved ones and friends and enjoy a slower pace to the morning.
Thank you for contributing to a very productive Term 2, know that you are very much appreciated.
God Bless.

On Monday the 1st of July many of our students attended the Catholic Schools Netball Carnival. The children participated with great enthusiasm and fairness. They made the OLV staff very proud. Thank you to the volunteers that helped on the day. We appreciate you giving up your time.
